Margaritas y Fajitas!, Pt. III
Today we’re wrapping up our sizzlin’ summer fiesta with two crucial elements: libations & Latin beats. See previous posts on decking it out with pinatas & papel picado, and serving up a spicy menu.
The Drinks
1. The Ultimate Margarita (pictured above)
Sometimes it’s best not to mess with a good thing, and Austinites definitely love a classic margarita. See Tyler Florence’s mouthwatering recipe.
2. Sangria Blanca
A refreshing twist on Sangria that’s perfect for steamy Texas weather. Mix large pitchers in advance, and add ice just before guests arrive. I like to garnish with a sprig of fresh mint. See Tyler Florence’s recipe.
3. Topo Chico
Stop by Fiesta and stock up on tons of fizzy, satisfying Topo Chico Mineral Waters, as well as fruity versions in a rainbow of colors. Fill aluminum tubs with ice and bottles for a look that screams ‘South of the Border.’
The Tunes
Latin beats are a must to set the tone for a fiesta, and if you’re playing the role of Deejay, I love the new Bilingual Jams & Crossover Anthems compilation. From Santana to Beck (with Spanish-infused “Guero), there’s something here to please Latin music aficionados and teeny-boppers alike. However, if you really want to make the party unforgettable, you can’t beat a traditional Mariachi in full regalia. Have them pop in midway through the party as a surprise that will bring the fiesta to a new level of fun. I’ve gotten great referrals by contacting David Perkoff Music.
