Postcards from Carmel-by-the-Sea
Day two of my Northern California getaway, and I’m already feeling completely rejuvenated by the gorgeous scenery and cool sea breezes. Yesterday we took a whirlwind tour of Napa, and today we float to idyllic Carmel-by-the-Sea, where sheep graze in green pastures and celebrities escape to get away from it all.
Mission Ranch Inn is a charming spot with rich history: in the 1850’s, it was one of the first California dairies; it became a rowdy officers’ club during WWII; and in 1986 it was purchased by Clint Eastwood in an effort to save it from becoming a condo development. Its sweeping views of the ocean and rolling pastures make it a cozy destination for a weekend rendezvous.
We enjoyed live piano and hearty fare at Mission Ranch Dining Room. Prime Rib & fresh fish were simple & satisfying.
Carmel Mission, founded in 1770, sits on a peaceful hillside in Carmel and is considered one of the most beautiful missions in California. Our friends had an incredible view of the mission from their living room window!

Stay tuned tomorrow as our jet-setting comes to an end in San Francisco: prepare for a stop in Sausalito, a harrowing drive down Lombard Street, & one last feast at Boulevard.

My dad use to take me to Carmel for day trips while growing up. It is a beautiful place.
