While designing the menu for a client’s holiday cocktail party today, I was reminded how much I LOVE mini versions of classic hors d’oeuvres & sweets.  Not only are they easy-to-eat while standing & mingling, nothing could be more adorable than a tiny hot dog, candied apple, or donut… they’re a sure way to add instant fun & whimsy to a grown-up party!  Here’s a roundup of some of the cutest versions out there:

    Hi Camille,

Those mini bites look delicious. I have a party next week, perhaps I can use some of them. By the way, I enjoyed looking at the pictures of your workshop flower arranging. It is still on my wishlist as well.

    groetjes Madelief

I like the ratio of icing to cake in the mini cupcakes. What kind of apples are used in the mini candied apples?

This is proof positive of a theory I have been developing, that women have some sort of genetic predisposition to love anything that is a miniature version of a larger item. Here are a few pieces of evidence:

    1. kittens
    2. small dogs (especially miniature versions of larger dogs. Miniature Schnauzer, I’m thinking of you.)
    3. Tiny snacks (apparently. Although I’ve got to admit that those tiny candied apples are kind of adorable)
    4. little, tiny handbags (You know there’s trouble when you take a couple of tictacs out of the box because the box takes up too much room in your teeny purse.
    5. Or course, babies. Have you ever seen a toddler in a suit at a wedding reception surrounded by middle aged women? A tornado could tear the roof off the building, they wouldn’t be distracted.

I’m serious, take anything, make it smaller, ladies will flip out. However, if someone showed up at my house with some of those tiny brownies and milkshake shots, I’m not exactly going to slam the door in their face. Any chance of getting some for my wedding?

Chrissy: They’re lady apples. Here’s the recipe: http://www.marthastewartweddings.com/portal/site/ww/menuitem.9da96f5acde0a93df8aeef105173a0a0/?vgnextoid=c037d3deb6a0f010VgnVCM1000003d370a0aRCRD&vgnextfmt=default

Collin: you just won the award for LONGEST comment ever. Loved it though, and yes, I think we could certainly arrange for some for your wedding. XOX

    Damn!…now I’m drooling.

That black cherry tidbit sent me over the edge.

Love these and I think Collin is right when he says women love miniature things. My fiance tells me that all the time!!
