For the Birds

Canary, Andrew ZuckermanI must start this post with two confessions:

  • As a general rule, I’m not a huge fan of birds.  I’m just sayin’…
  • I often listen to Martha Stewart on Sirius radio while driving.  Nerdy, maybe.  Educational, always.

The two collided last week when I was tuning in to Martha, and happened to catch an interview with photographer Andrew Zuckerman about his new book titled Bird.  Zuckerman described how he captured 200 images of birds set against a stark white background in order to reveal their vivid color & personality in stunning detail.  I raced home to check it out, and was floored by the raw beauty of these beautiful species in such a minimalist setting.  You must check out his site to see for yourself (and let me know your favorites!) but in the meantime, here’s a teaser:

And I know I’m digressing with these last two images, but I stumbled across them when looking through Zuckerman’s other work, and couldn’t resist sharing.

AZ Leopard

AZ GiraffeI love it when my eyes are opened to beauty in a new way!

I actually had seen this done when I was a little girl (back in the 50’s) by Steve Allen! He wrote a song by using a photo with birds on a wire.
